In the year of the centenary of the death of Afonso Henriques de Lima Barreto, I pay this tribute to Brazilian, Portuguese and Galician writers and poets of a very high caste. In this series of woodcuts, intaglios and etchings, I tried to somehow portray those who treated with affection the seed of marginality, those who pointed the finger against all kinds of lackeys hired to all sorts of scoundrels. They recognized themselves in their rebellion as crooked angels, and voluntarily or involuntarily wanted to be a part, with an active voice, of that innumerable family of moths dispossessed of everything. These exile souls, who did not leave their marginalized peers out in the open without a voice. They rescued this neglected mass forgotten in the History of the vanquished for their narratives. And they often paid a high price.
Not here. Here I make no distinctions between the creators and the creatures of these rebels. They are all flour from the same bag. Dreamy bohemians, fescenine poets, truculent pimps, rogue poets, independentist academics, disfigured musicians, homosexual poets, boorish poets, alcoholic professors, boorish screenwriters, bipolar poetesses, decadent artists, rascal journalists, miserable daily reporters, men and women discriminated against for their positions politics, for their aesthetic visions or even for the color of their skin, in this exhibition, these beings will be treated as equals, as our peers.

We hope that, in the life, in the work, in the biographies or in the engravings of some of these, represented here, you will understand, even without having ever tasted, the taste of what “the bread-that-the-devil-kneaded” is, recognize yourself on them. If you don't recognize yourself, I'm very sorry for your comfort and conformism!
